I am a multi-generational Kansas Citian, and am remarkably fortunate to have known two of my great-grandmothers and all four grandparents, and therefore have a profound appreciation for the wealth of love and knowledge that can be gained from multi-generational families. I remember being entertained by the animated and sometimes exaggerated stories around the holiday dinner tables. Years of unfulfilled promises to bring a microphone to Thanksgiving dinner led to a feeling of urgency to record our family history. Since interviewing my family, I realize that there is a tremendous amount of assumed knowledge between loved ones. Taking the time to ask the questions and listen closely we learn so much more about each other, and find so much more to love.
In addition to recording stories throughout the states, my hope is to bring my recording services to Hope Town, a small settlement on Elbow Cay in the Abacos, a northern chain of islands in the Bahamas. This island was devastated by Hurricane Dorian on September 1, 2019. As a frequent visitor and new resident to the island, I fell in love with the kindness and spirit of the local community. The tragedy of the storm actually strengthened the bonds within an already tightly-knit community. There are several generations of unbelievable ocean tales and island lore that we are trying to preserve so that Bahamians can pass their history on to future generations and those lucky enough to visit this special island.
In an effort to ensure that the history and legacy is preserved in Hope Town, I am offering a free chapter recording for a Hope Town local following each paid Chapter One recording session.
